The Alliance Française, founded in 1883, was the first French-language school and the first cultural NGO in the world. Based on the associative model and local law, the Alliances Françaises bring together all those who wish to develop knowledge and a taste for the French language, and promote, wherever they are present, dialogue and intercultural exchanges. Led by 15,000 employees and 6,300 volunteer administrators, each year they bring together nearly 500,000 students and nearly 3.5 million participants in the 26,000 events organized on five continents. The values of the Alliance Française are in many respects exemplary today: they are the republican ideals of living together, emancipation through knowledge, openness through dialogue and recognition of the diversity of cultures and languages. , first and foremost the French language. Each Alliance is managed locally as an independent non-profit organization, in an environment foreign to any political or religious concerns. Its purpose is to bring together friends of France and to organize general and specialist language courses throughout the world and in France, as well as cultural and cooperation activities. It ensures the coherence and unity of the ideals and objectives of the movement while respecting local specificities.
